Choosing concrete: How is the concrete grade determined?
The standard period for full hardening of concrete is 28 days. This period determines the quality or grade of concrete. The grade is denoted by the letter "M"with a nominal value that depends on the concrete strength, from the lowest (100) to the highest (500).
This wide variety of concrete strengths is due to different needs during construction works. For more details see our article “What is concrete grade and concrete class”*
In order to determine the concrete grade, it is necessary to define some parameters - the type of work, price expectations, the required amount of concrete and the manufacturer.
Concrete grade depending on the type of work
Each concrete grade is designed for a specific type of work. For example, concrete grade M350is an excellent solution for residential repairs, such as flooring** in a house, wall decoration, or for making putty. At the same time, M600 concrete is designed for heavy construction works, such as the construction of dams or facilities in are as with increased seismic activity.
Of course, you can also use M600 concrete to fill the floor in your home - but the result is unlikely to meet expectations. Such concrete takes much more time to set, is more difficult to prepare and, accordingly, the price of this type will be higher.
Price expectations
This point follows from the previous one, as the higher the grade of concrete, the more expensive it is. Thanks to the stated prices on the websites, you can calculate the approximate amount of concrete for the amount of work you need.
