Strip concrete foundation: types and characteristics
A strip foundation is an excellent solution for those who plan to build a house with underground parking or a basement. Strip foundations are strong and stable, but at the same time, they will cost the developer much less than installing piles.
Typically, strip foundations are used in areas with dry and non-heaving soils; they allow the foundation to be built 0.5 m into the ground without loss of stability. On other types of soil, the construction of a strip foundation is also possible, but it will have to be laid at least twice as deep, so this option is not financially viable.
In turn, strip foundations can be divided into two types - shallow and deep.
A shallow foundation is a foundation that reaches from 0.3 to 0.5 m in depth. This type is suitable for small private buildings.
A deep foundation is used to construct buildings with heavy concrete walls or underground parking. To build a deep foundation, you need to measure the depth of soil freezing and then subtract 30 cm from the resulting value.
Methods of laying the strip foundation
Strip foundations can be divided into two types — monolithic and prefabricated.
Monolithic stripfoundations consist of reinforced concrete. Reinforcement of a strip foundationis a foundation laying process in which steel rods are installed before pouringconcrete. Monolithic foundation construction is a more labour-intensive processthan prefabricated, as you will need a lot of effort to install the iron rods.
Theprefabricated method involves assembling the foundation from concrete or brickblocks. It is easier than the previous one, but it will take more time.
Pouring a strip concrete foundation is quite easy to implement, but it is up to you to choose the most efficient method of laying the foundation.
